Protection of large carnivores

Distribution

The gray wolf occurrence in the Czech Republic is most frequently recorded in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and in the Javorníky mountain range (Kutal et al., 2014b).

Single records have come from Šumava (Bufka et al., 2005), yet there is also evidence that wolves migrate to northern and western part of the country (Flousek et al., 2014). In the recent decade no presence of a breeding wolf pack was confirmed and thus wolf population size in the Czech Republic is estimated at a dozen or so individuals.
